We are linking up with Kacey at Doodle Bugs Teaching for her Five for Friday.
1. We had cultural arts on Monday. A guy came to share different instruments from around the world. You know how when a speaker comes and he or she asks for volunteers, and all those hands go up, and then they pick a student to come up to the front to help them out and you are kind of wondering who is going to be picked? Then you see THAT KID get picked and you find yourself going, oooooooooooooooooooooooooooh nooooooooooooooooooo!! Yeah. That happened to me twice during this one presentation. (I have several of those kids in my class, so I guess it was inevitable.) The first one got to sit on an African drum and bang the beat. She handled it pretty well. Then, the other one was chosen to hit a huge bell thing. He did pretty well, too. Phew!! I wish I'd had pictures! It was absolute chaos when he said, "Now, everyone pick an instrument to play..." and 180 kids go in all directions to find an instrument. Yikes. But it's ok. (I can say that now since it's over. I don't handle chaos well.) ;O)
2. We started geometry with some pretzels and marshmallows! Math is always fun with food!! :O)
4. Our grade level had an all day planning today and we got a TON accomplished. That always feels good. We mapped out everything we had to get done before THE BIG TEST in April. That was a little overwhelming because I'm so far behind. I'm trying not to panic, but I was pretty close to tears today. My team was super supportive and helped Stacia and I make a plan of attack. I just LOVE them!!
5. If you missed our freebie, check it out below. :O)
If you download it, please let us know what you think!
Happy Friday to you! We hope you have a great weekend!! How do you handle the stress of "getting it all in"? Stacia and I eat lots of chocolate and jelly beans. The scale doesn't appreciate it, but my psyche does!!

I'm so jealous of your built in snow days. We don't have any built in so when we have a day off we have to make it up!! It makes it much less enjoyable! Enjoy your three day weekend!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute freebie & I love your rainbow/coin bulletin board. :) I just found you through the Blogs by State linky & am a fellow Georgia blogger. :) I have to say, I'm super jealous of y'alls built in snow days..we don't have any :( Boo!

First Grade Fairytales
I am so jealous of your all day planning day and having Monday off! Good for you! We have in-service next Friday and get 2:00-3:00 to work in our rooms. Much of the day is spent on "data driven instruction" and close reading workshops. Yay!! (sarcasm!). We always get one day off (the Friday before Memorial Day) if we don't use all of our 4 snow days (we never use all of them). I know a school in our area that gets them ALL back and last year had off a week at Memorial Day!
ReplyDeleteI love your geometry with food! I will have to try that as a fun review lesson before the test!
Have a great weekend:)

Fourth Grade Flipper
I know EXACTLY what you mean about those kind of assemblies! I cringe inwardly and want to organize/manage/contain the chaos...but alas (most of the time) I just sit in my seat and keep a happy face :)
ReplyDeleteI certainly am jealous of your Monday off - we haven't had a single snow day (and I'm in NJ - we've had lots of SNOW, just no Snow Days off from school) but we missed a week in October due to Hurricane Sandy, so they counted as all (and more!) or our built-in snow days.
So think of us teachers laboring away while you are sleeping in, hitting snooze, relaxing on the couch...actually no, don't think about us - enjoy your day completely! :)
Happy weekend, friend!

Joy in the Journey
Oh the description of the assembly just made me cringe!! I love when they pick "that kid"! LOL! The freebie is great. I'll be using it this week. The bulletin board is fabulous!! No one at my school really puts up seasonal boards...it's so depressing! I've started doing them again...then they'll all be jealous! LOL! Food with any subject is good for me! We'll be starting geometry soon. I'm behind too! Don't feel bad...somehow it all works out!

Beach Sand and Lesson Plans
Ok, I'm jealous of the fact that you get to use snow days whether you have used all your days or not....It may not seem like it from this year but we have had years where we didn't use them all and it was just oh well, we didn't use them. :(
ReplyDeleteI am SUPER loving your bulletin board...and did you guys put up a new picture with a fun and fancy border? I am lovin' it. :)

Diving Into 2nd Grade
I'm loving all of your ideas, as always! Those pretzel sticks are such a fun way to get kids involved in math. Loving the St. Patricks Day goods too!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you had a rough week! We've all been there! Chocolate brownie ice cream. a good cry and a nap (in that order) always make me feel better! I guess I am a three-year-old at heart!

ReplyDeleteI'm going to forward this post to my student teacher. She is introducing geometry next week. That is a great idea.

Love the geometry with marshmallows and pretzels! Pinning!
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to have a 3 day weekend. I am hoping for a snow day tomorrow but that would add another day at the end of the year. Ugh.
